Crescent City Schools is seeking a full-time, well-qualified School Principal for the Constellations Program. This position provides leadership and oversight for the day to day workings of the Constellation Program, including teacher leadership, curriculum design, legal compliance, special education program design, operations management, parent communication and support, staff team building, and community outreach. Experience with special populations is required, as this program serves students with significant special needs. The Constellations Program’s School Principal will report to the Crescent City Schools Chief of Schools.

Responsibilities:

Instructional Leadership

  • Develops an instructional vision and disseminates that vision throughout the school
  • Models high quality teaching and promotes high expectations for student with significant disabilities
  • Leads staff to make yearly academic and developmental gains with all students 

Cultural Leadership

  • Establishes, articulates, aligns and/or teaches the organization’s vision, mission, values, and goals; inspires and gains the commitment of others towards the mission
  • Models the organization’s values and strong character at all times; integrates programs, rituals, and visual artifacts that represent the values throughout the school
  • Implements the CT3 No Nonsense Nurturer model throughout the building as well as individual behavior intervention plans

Financial Leadership

  • Uses financial information to make sound decisions
  • With support from the central office, builds a yearly budget and manages that budget to ensure revenues exceed expenses yearly
  • Manages resources (people, financial, equipment) effectively to support the school’s long and short-term goals

Operational Leadership

  • Ensures that operations in the building maximizes student learning including data, custodial, busing, food service, and HR.
  • Addresses operational needs of the faculty and staff and proactively anticipates the operational needs of the building 

Team Leadership and Relationship Building

  • Directly manages a  Directors Team to accomplish school goals
  • Clarifies roles, accountabilities and decision making among team members
  • Delegates tasks to appropriate individuals or groups 
  • Promotes collaboration among team members
  • Encourages others to proactively solve problems and take initiatives 
  • Models and encourages others to manage conflict openly and productively
  • Leads productive whole school and team meetings; celebrates team accomplishments
  • Sets team and individual goals with employees that align with organization vision, mission, and goals
  • Coaches others towards goals, recognizes accomplishments, and provides timely, relevant, and constructive feedback 
  • Evaluates performance regularly
  • Retains effective staff

  • Have experience leading a high performing urban school that continuously raises student achievement
  • Have a BA or BS degree; advanced degree preferred
  • Possess Louisiana Special Education Teacher Certification (or equivalent certification in another
  • state), Low Incidence Disabilities preferred
  • Have an outstanding record of managing adults to achieve their goals
  • Possess extensive knowledge of Tier 3 curriculum resources and evidence of ability to use data to drive student achievement across a school 
  • Have demonstrated the ability to build and command the respect and trust of students and their families
  • Have a desire to collaborate at a network level to ensure the success of all students in the Crescent City Schools network
  • Possess a passion and commitment to educational equality and the education reform movement in New Orleans
  • Have the desire to found a special education program dedicated to supporting students with moderate to severe disabilities 

 

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds
  • This is an in-person role
